Richard Stallman talks about software & open source

13 Sep 2007

Prof. Lessig from the law school hosted Richard Stallman, Harvard alum/MIT drop-out and founder of the Free Software Foundation and author of much of the GNU software (emacs, gcc) that helped build the Linux operating system to what it is today. He spoke about changes in the new ‘copyleft’ licensing under the GPL version 3, yet what surprised me was his negative portrayal of the open source movement – which he accused of focusing on technical considerations at the expense of any social obligations.
